We Support Our Military!

Military Relations Committee and Little Apple® Brigade

The Military Relations Committee meets monthly with programs about military related topics to keep the community updated about affairs on Fort Riley and around the world. Speakers often visit from Fort Riley, but may also be from off-post organizations with a military connection.

These events are a luncheon format held the first Wednesday of each month (except July & December) at various Chamber member locations in Manhattan. Luncheon social time and dining is from 11:30 a.m. - noon with the program to follow. Active duty military of any rank and their spouses are our guests for the event at no charge unless their position precludes their acceptance of our offer.

For more information, please contact Bevin Landrum.

Special Events
From Military Family Appreciation Night at the Kaw Valley Rodeo to picnics at the zoo and Kstate tailgate experiences, the MRC brings a diverse package of special events programming throughout the year to recognize our troops and their families for their sacrifice.

Regualr activities include Lunch Bunch, Spouse Night Out and Yellow Ribbon support events, single-soldier support, Veterans Day events, Operation Santa's Helper, youth fishing clinics, R&R dinner voucher program, babysitting bank volunteer info and honey-do day service events. If you have additional ideas or suggestions, please let us know.

Beginning on Sep 9, 2010 we will host monthly Community Orientation Briefings to help newcomers to Fort Riley get connected in Manhattan and Riley County.

Fort Riley Update
The Fort Riley Update, a listing of demographics, deployments and upcoming activities, is published monthly in the Little Apple® Business Review which is distributed in the Manhattan Mercury.

Governor’s Strategic Military Planning Commission
The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce partially funds and houses the office of John Armbrust, the Executive Director of the Governor’s Strategic Military Planning Commission.

This commission can be credited with the successful passage of Fort Riley and three other state military institutions through the final stages of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process.
